Updates: Bench and Running

A few days ago, on my 58th birthday, I got the notion to bench press. I had only done it once in the last 2 or 3 years and wanted to see how far I had fallen off, especially since I had dropped weight from about 205 to 189. Given that I had been doing only push ups and high-rep training with only 90-110 pound dumbbells, I was pleased that 320 went up for a fairly easy double. We screwed up the video on the main camera; however, Adam got it on his phone. It can be seen here.

As far as the running goes, I seem to be making slow, but steady progress. Last week I only ran twice: once for 2.25 miles, and then for 2.75 miles. I had a little plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, so I didn’t run again until 5 days later on Monday. I managed 3.177 miles in 28:18, for a 8:54 pace. Hardly spectacular, but it was a goal to run the 5K at under a 9 minute pace. My foot seems none the worse for wear–a good sign of progress.

This running again is really challenging my ego; it’s much more fun to make like a gym rat and lift big weights…heh! At this lower weight I feel like I have more energy, though.
